The start of a new year is a typical time to review the past
year and make plans for the new year. Poor health does not suddenly
appear at your door step. It usually occurs so slowly that you don't
even recognize what is happening. Sooooo in the process of reviewing
the past year, consider the following symptoms because they all reveal
poor health and/or disease: poor digestion, gas, skin problems, body
odor, finger nails pealing, diarrhea, poor circulation, stomach bloat,
fatigue, lower backache, bad breath, stiff joints, elimination
problems, breathing problems, behavior problems, addictions,
depression, allergies, etc...
If, after your review, you come to the conclusion that your health is an important consideration for 2008, then you might consider being more positive about yourself and the world you live in. Become more aware of who you are and your purpose. Everyone has a purpose in life. You may not realize it right now, but it could be a unique gift or special talent to give and share with others or just being and enjoying the World around you. Your health condition should be a high priority for you to fulfill your purpose. Goals and Intention... Intention is the key to expression or directing our energy to accomplishing any task. A goal is a requirement in setting one's intention. My goal for this newsletter, for 2008, is to alert readers to subjects that can be determinable to their health. In addition, my intention is to supply reliable information for enabling readers to consider making helpful changes in their diet, lifestyle and offering alternatives to improve their health and well being. Addiction and Compulsion... According to Gary Zukav, author of SEAT OF THE SOUL, you should be thankful for having an addition because it provides you an opportunity to deal with a serious challenge that is effecting your life. An addiction or dependence is a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual's health, mental state or social life. It may be alcoholism, drugs, food resulting in obesity, physical and/or mental abuse, sex, shopping, religion, computers, gambling, pornography, etc. Addictions and Compulsions not only effect the individual, but their family members and the people they may know. Factors that have been suggested as causes of addiction include genetic, biological/pharmacological and social factors. A recent Dr. Phil TV show provided insight in the problem of compulsion. A husband was concerned that his wife would eat only limited food such as butter, mayonnaise, and the skin off her chicken. She was very selective in eating only one pea or bean from her soup and carefully examining each item before eating it. Her husband could not eat fish in her presents because the thought would make her sick. Her general health was affected. According to Dr. Phil her condition could be helped with the aid of two to three weeks of therapy by a qualified counselor. She was to return in about 30 days to provide a report on her progress. I would think it would take alot more than 30 days of therapy for any positive change, but hopefully she will experience some positive change in her compulsive personality. Why do cold and flu hit you in the Winter months and how to stop it naturally? For centuries, people believed that cold weather was the reason for cold and flu. One possible answer to the riddle comes to us from a study in a maximum security prison. Back in 2005, the Atascadero prison in California was hit with a severe flu outbreak. Inmates from all over the prison got sick. However, one ward was unaffected. None of the prisoners in that ward got the flu--even after they mingled with infected inmates from other wards! It turns out that the doctor in that ward was doing something the other doctors weren't doing: He was giving the prisoners daily doses of vitamin D. We've known for years that vitamin D protects you against a whole host of illnesses, including osteoporosis and cancer. But recent research shows that vitamin D protects you against infections, too. That's because vitamin D stimulates your body to make a powerful germ-fighting substance called cathelicidin, which some scientists believe that it is a powerful natural antibiotic. We know that our bodies make less vitamin D in the winter because there's less sunlight. So the reason we get sick in the winter has nothing to do with the cold; it has to do with the fact that our vitamin D levels are lower! During the winter, spring, and fall, Dr. Robert J. Rowen, MD. recommends up to 5,000 i.u. per day of D3. Probiotics Are Important To Good Health... Only two months ago Duke University immunologists and surgeons announced their discovery of a role for the appendix that modern medicine has commonly considered useless. The appendix was found to both protect and produce probiotics for the gut. One Duke University surgery professor then fell prey to the medical mythology that germs are lurking about to prey upon people with his pronouncement that people could "catch" probiotics like some helpful contagion. However, only an intentional proactive approach will replenish probiotics. The recent AP promotion of the NIH conference also noted (erroneously) "the market is ahead of the science". The "new" "news"/propaganda by AP listed many newcomers from major, main$tream companies (prominent news advertisers) with inferior products while ignoring reliable, seasoned veteran companies with superior and proven products such as I Flora with 18 billion probiotics from Sadona Labs, Ultimate Flora with 15 billion probiotics from Renew Life and PB-8 by Now. Hundreds of probiotic products have flooded the marketplace just since 2005 according to the AP piece. Inept and irresponsible "news" reporting that waters down the beneficial impact of beneficial bacteria by ignoring the tried and true probiotic providers. The AP article also did not note that there are a dozen or more different varieties of probiotic flora flourishing in a healthy intestinal tract. Most products contain only one or a few different strains and very few contain at least "10 billion daily" in total. Near the end of the very long AP article it was at least noted that flora "need to be alive and ingested in huge amounts" with "10 billion daily" specifically mentioned and attributed to Gary Huffnagle, University of Michigan researcher who calls probiotics "a new essential food group" in his new book, The Probiotics Revolution. Did You Know? * Research reveals that a thrice-weekly exercise program is nearly as effective at relieving depression as antidepressant drugs. * Treatment of bipolar disorder in children rose 40 fold between 1994 and 2003. * Only half of patients take their prescription drugs as indicated, largely due to side effects. * Women who've had hysterectomies are more likely to have severe urinary incontinence. Thought For The Day... Most disease, including arthritis, cardiovascular and cancer, to a great degree, preventable with changes in diet, lifestyle, exercise and taking preventive supplements to enhance your immune system. Make good health your GOAL for 2008 and your intention to take what ever preventive action needed to ensure achieving your GOAL.
