ARE YOU GOING TO BE HEALTHIER, OR SICKER IN 2002?Healthier or sicker in 2002?? It's up to you!! Your health is partially genetic. You cannot change our parents. But you do control what you think, what you eat and drink and what you say and do. You control the "power of choice" to make changes in your behavior and lifestyle. IF YOU DONšT TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR DIET AND LIFE STYLE, ONE DAY, YOUR BODY WILL RULE YOUR DIET AND LIFESTYLE! Are you worried about your weight and the serious medical problems linked to obesity, such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Heart Disease? These as well as other diet related health ailments, which just about cover 90% of doctor visits, costs us billions of dollars every year and causes as many as 300,000 deaths a year. Thirty years ago, diseases such as colon cancer, prostate cancer, and diverticular disease were virtually unknown. Today, they are almost a certainty if you live long enough. We have approximately 700,000 doctors in the U.S. according to the Census. Never in the entire history of the world has any other country come close to spending as much as we do on health care: a conservative one trillion dollars a year. That means that what we spend on health care is more than the entire Gross National Product of all but six countries in the world today. So what value have we received? We lead the developed world in deaths from HEART DISEASE, PROSTATE CANCER, BREAST CANCER, COLORECTAL CANCER AND DIABETES. Even though we spend 100 billion dollars a year on cancer treatment and research, the overall survival rate for cancer patients is NO BETTER than it was 50 years ago. (Many cancer patients die from the treatment and are not recorded as death caused by cancer.) The incidence of diabetes in the U.S. has DOUBLED in just the LAST 5 YEARS! Colorectal cancer was virtually unknown 30 years ago. Today, it is the single most prevalent cancer among men and women combined. The number of Americans who suffer from Asthma has risen by an astounding 75% in just the last 20 years. Breast cancer rates are up 30% in just the last 15 years. The following shocking facts are not released to the public: *The April 15, 1998 Journal of the American Medical Association reported that there are more than 2,000,000 drug "reactions" annually in the United States, and that more than 100,000 of those reactions are fatal. This makes prescription drugs the fourth leading cause of death in America. *These numbers only count drugs that are prescribed correctly and at the right dose. *NOT INCLUDED are patients who are given the wrong drugs, or who are given those drugs at the wrong dosage or in the wrong combination. *And these numbers do not include the patients who have fatal reactions to the drugs, but whose deaths are mistakenly attributed to other causes. *Nor do these numbers include the patients whose cause of death is deliberately obscured to protect the physicians and hospitals involved. Now your talking about as many as 700,000 deaths year. (Actually, the FDA estimates that only 1% of all adverse reactions are reported, so 700,000 is a very conservative estimate.) It is 2002 and you may be thinking about making the same New Year's resolution that millions of Americans make each year: "This year the weight is going to come off!" Weight Loss Wonder #1: Imagine millions of little bulldozers scooping up the fat from your belly, rear and thighs, and then dumping it into a fat-burning furnace. Nutritionists call it "carnitine"! Carnitine's job is to do just that. It transports the fat to small "energy factories" in your cells and INCINERATES it. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, carnitine is essential for fatty acid oxidation and energy production. Severe and chronic carnitine deficiency may be associated with various cardiac problems: cardiomegaly, congestive heart failure and cardiac arrest. According to the The Life Extension Update newsletter, carnitine lowers triglyceride levels and elevates HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol). Other benefits of using a carnitine supplement are that it reduces blood fat levels, "improves heart arrhythmias, increases stress resistance, lessens electrocardiogram abnormalities and improves exercise tolerance." Weight Loss Wonder #2: If you're serious about losing weight and keeping the weight off, you should know about this all-natural supplement called chromium picolinate. This natural vitamin improves your metabolism of sugar, which, in turn, will increase your uptake of insulin. It enables your body to burn sugars as fuel... and NOT stored as fat. Weight Loss Wonder #3: The brain only uses two fuels... glucose and L-glutamine. L-glutamine reaches a starving brain in just minutes and can immediately end the most powerful sweet and starch cravings. It keeps you alert and calm, as well as stabilizes your brain function and promotes good digestion. Chitasan is a fat blocker that can be used to retain fat when ever eating fat foods. Chitasan absorbs the fat, thus preventing the body from absorbing it. The Low Carbohydrate Diet may be your answer. Protein and fat is OK. Restrict carbohydrates to 25 grams per day for three weeks. Drink 8 glasses of water per day. A good multi-vitamin/mineral and EPA oils are necessary. Extra fiber is also recommended. A high protein food bar containing only 3 carbohydrates is available. Low carb Protein drinks are recommended for a meal or a snack between meals. Books and carb counters, as well as specific details and follow-up for the diet are always available at the Health Gallery. Sugar Control Nutrients... Research suggests that alpha-lipoic acid stimulates insulin activity, reduces insulin resistance in diabetics, and enhances the burning of glucose. German researchers recently reported that alpha-lipoic acid increased cellular uptake and burning of glucose by 50 percent. It is also a powerful antioxidant and excellent nutrient for the liver.
