Are Antidepressants Helpful? What About Chronic Inflammation?
By Walt "dr health" Edwards Please contact me using this number: 1-541-247-7077 Past issues available on my web site: getwel-newsletter. As amazing as it sounds antidepressants do not likely work in the majority
of patients that use them. Medical doctors, with out any special psychological training, are
prescribing antidepressant drugs to their patients. Many patients will report success
stories when using them. How come? Very easy! Up to 75 percent of the response of
antidepressants can be duplicated by placebo. If you take a pill that you think will make
you better, there is a strong likelihood you will manifest that intention. Your mind can
produce very powerful effects and resolving depression is certainly one of them. Intention
and belief are very powerful.
Last year the British Medical Journal argued brilliantly that antidepressants offer no meaningful benefit and emotional problems can be better handled without taking a toxic drug. In many cases just getting more exercise or getting in the garden more often resolves depression. Others report changes by reducing their consumption of grains, particularly wheat. Again, intention and thought can be very helpful if you use them in a positive manner. New research on antidepressants use was presented at the annual American Diabetes Association meeting and showed that those who took antidepressants had a 2-300 percent increase in diabetes. There is a tendency for depressed individuals consuming satisfying foods that have high carbohrydrates like baked goods, breads and sweets. These type of foods raise the blood sugar leading to diabetes. The link between suicide and antidepressants is so strong that the drugs have been mandated to have suicide precaution warnings. There are healthier options to consider that have nothing at all to do with taking a drug: In an unrelated study, it was found that the antidepressant Prozac, which is often used to treat anorexia, is not effective for the disorder. In the year-long study, only 27 percent of 49 women given Prozac maintained a normal weight and finished the study, compared to 32 percent of 44 women given a placebo. L-Tryptophan and L. 5-Hydraxytryptophan (5-HTP) are similar! L-Tryptophan may be a solution for those individuals seeking relief from: *Occasional sleeplessness. *Premenstrual symptoms. *Nervous irritability. *Muscle pain from exercise. *Craving for carbohydrates. *Emotional conflicts, thus reduces physical and mental abuse and replaces anti-depression drugs. L 5-hydraxytryptophan (5-HTP) increases the cell's output of serotonin. Various behavioral and biochemical studies reveal 5-HTP is closely involved in aiding depressive disorders as well as reducing anxiety. In addition, people described as "mildly insomniac" have reported sleep enhancement. Many reports of mild weight loss were also recorded. Behavior Modification: Your mind, not your body, is in control of your nutritional habits. It is difficult to make changes to poor habits. You must learn to rewrite the software of your mind by replacing poor habits with good habits. Commitment to make the necessary changes to your diet and life style are critical for success. To accomplish exactly what you want, you have to DO IT! If you need help, check out my book 60 Day Journey To Optimal Health. This book provides you an eight week program to follow. Recommendations are provided each week such as: Projects, Diet, Supplements, Exercise, and Mental/Spiritual considerations. What Is Chronic Inflammation? It is nature's way of telling us that something is going very wrong in our body. Inflammation is our basic defense and all inflammation begins with a triggering event. A bacteria, virus, parasite, or toxin invades the body; a blow, fall or surgery injures the body; or you eat food that is harmful. After the trigger has been pulled, white blood cells (macrophages) rush to the area where the invader has entered or the injury has occurred. Macrophages produce pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemical messengers that attack and clean up cells in the affected area. If this trigger continues, cytokin production rises, sending more and more signals to destroy more and more cells which will eventually lead to organ damage. In the early 1990s, Dr. Paul Ridker decided the best marker to measure chronic inflammation would be C-reactive protein (CPR), a molecule produced by the liver in response to an inflammatory signal. The higher the level of inflammation, the higher the level of CRP. Everyone who suspects they might have chronic inflammation, and and every senior should ask their doctor for a Highly Sensitive C-reactive Protein (HSCRP) test. Why is this test so important? A New England Journal of Medicine study showed that people with high levels of CRP were almost three times as likely to die from heart attack, regardless of their cholesterol levels. High levels of C-reactive protein also indicate who is more likely to get colon, esophageal, liver stomach, prostate and lymphoma cancers. According to many medical experts the most prevalent trigger for inflammation is the standard American diet (SAD) of processed foods and junk food. The five worse foods to eat are: 1. French fries, 2. Donuts, 3. Cookies/ Crackers/ commercial pastries, 4. Potato and Corn Chips/Tortilla chips, 5. Sodas/Bottled Teas and Fruit Juices/Diet Sodas. Systemic Oral Enzymes excel at quelling inflammation. This is important because inflammation is directly related to pain conditions as well as heart disease. They have been shown to help: 1. Break down proteins in the blood that cause inflammation and remove them via the blood stream and lymphatic system. 2. Remove fibrin, the clotting material that prolongs inflammation. 3. Clear up edema (excess water) in the areas of inflammation. 4. Counteract chronic, recurrent inflammation, a primary cause of chronic degenerative joint and other diseases. Wobernzym N Systemic Oral Enzymes Relieves Inflammation... by working with the body's own immune defense system to moderate the inflammatory process. In many common auto-inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, the immune system becomes hyperstimulated and begins to malfunction. For some unknown reason, the body's immune system begins to form unneeded antibodies. An antibody is any of numerous protein molecules produced as a primary immune defense by the immune system's lymphocytes. When the immune system malfunctions, it overreacts and produces antibodies that attack even the harmless substances. The result is the formation of irritating circulating immune complexes (CICs) that are misshapen and foreign to the body that they themselves are attacked, causing chronic inflammation resulting in pain. The Prevention and Reduction of Atherosclerosis... Life style changes in diet and exercise are important. Also critical for healthy arteries are supplements like B complex which contains Folic Acid, antioxidants, Vitamin C, Omega 3, Lipoic Acid, Wobernzym N, a Systemic Oral Enzyme which relieves inflammation in the case of high C-Reactive Protein. NATTOKINASE, a systemic enzyme from Japan supports the fibrinolytic blood clearing system promoting clear blood flow and supporting balanced immune reactions for long-term health. In addition, Chelation Therapy with EDTA using intravenous (in a doctor's office) or Oral Chelation, which is available in many health stores including the Health Gallery. Thought For The Day: All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident! GETWEL.COM |
