Nutritional Support For Brain Function By Walt "dr health" Edwards Please contact me using this number: 1-541-247-7077 Past issues available on my web site: getwel-newsletter.
One thing we all have in common is a desire to live a long, healthy life. However, the
prospect of aging is frightening to some folks, but the thought of losing our mental
abilities as we age is terrifying! We strive to live healthy lifestyles by eating well,
exercising and using nutritional supplements, but nothing has been available to support our
brain cells specifically. However, recent breakthrough technology has made
Phosphatidylserine (PS), a brain cell nutrient, available in a concentrated form.
PS appears to play an important role in the function of brain cells. Clinical studies done since the 1970s suggest that PS may help maintain or improve cognitive functions such as memory and learning, especially in mature adults. When PS is given orally, it is rapidly absorbed and readily crosses the blood-brain barrier to reach the brain. PS helps activate and regulate proteins that play major roles in nerve cell functions - the generation, storage, transmission and reception of nerve impulses. Safety and toxicology studies have shown that PS is safe and has no side effects. PS is not found concentrated in common foods, but derived from soy phospholipids. DMAE is normally present in small amounts in our brain, and it is well known for its brain enhancing effects. This naturally occurring nutrient is found in sea food, especially anchovies and sardines. DMAE elevates mood, improves memory and learning, and increases intelligence and physical energy. DMAE works by accelerating the brain synthesis or the neurotransmitter, Acetylcholine, which plays a role in maximizing mental alertness and preventing loss of memory. There is a prescription drug called Deaner, a form of DMAE. It is marketed for learning problems, under achievers, short attention span, hyperactivity, reading a speech difficulties, impaired motor coordination, and behavior problems. Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC} is found throughout the central nervous system. It plays a broad role as a neurotransmitter, energy-producing reactions, and it also crosses the blood-brain barrier. Ginkgo biloba has been consumed for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine to improve memory and increase circulation. It crosses the blood-brain barrier to improve cerebral circulation, which raises oxygen levels, heightens memory, and prevents clotting in microcapilaries. It normalizes acetylcholine receptors, improves glucose utilization. Ginkgo should not be used with prescription blood thinners or MAO inhibitors, because it will enhance their effects. Huperzine aids and enhances the transmission of electrical impulses across neurons. Plaques in the brain, which buildup after neurons are destroyed, can be reduced with Huperzine. Phosphatidyl-choline (PC) is a concentrated form of Lecithin which has legendary fat-emulsifying properties that keep blood flowing freely in arteries and capillaries of the brain. PC promotes and maintains cellular health. Vinponcetine enhances memory and memory retention. It also improves concentration and focus. Vinponcetine is reported to reduce the effects of AlzheimerÕs, increases glucose metabolism and cerebral oxygen levels, reduces blood viscosity and increases blood flow while raising ATP production in brain cells. In addition, it is a cerebral vasodilator and a nootropic that improves cognitive functions in healthy people. Antioxidants such as Vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamin A, selenium, alpha-lipoic acid, L-glutathine, and NAC (n-acetylcysteine) - just to name a few - all aggressively scavenge free radicals that can cause oxidative damage to neurons. The Mind Is An Excellent Thing To Mind... With all the negative nutritional, environmental and social forces and factors working against us, itÕs easy to lose track of the task of hand, become mentally confused and disoriented or forgetful. But fogging out does not have to become a lifestyle. with some thoughtful restructuring of diet and stress management choices, sporadic problems of mental function can be corrected with very little difficulty. Supplementing the diet with brain-positive nutrients can smooth out those little glitches between the ears in practically no time at all. In cases that are more stubborn, damaging or complex - such as ADD/ADHD, Alzeimer's and depression - ntervention with the appropriate nutritional arsenal at the early stages is capable of significantly reducing and possibly eliminating the symptoms and progression of life stealing brain killers. An Alternative to Aspirin or Coumadin... Nattokinase? Using aspirin for heart disease has been controversial for years, and now aspirin is in the news again. According to a recent study in American Heart Journal, people who are diagnosed with heart failure and follow a treatment regimen that includes blood thinners such as aspirin or coumadin (warfarin) could be putting their health into more danger. While millions take these medications every day, many suffer from a long list of side effects that include gastrointestinal bleeding and ruptured blood vessels. Worst of all, medications like warfarin and aspirin do little to solve the underlying problem. One only need to look at the facts for proof -- since the introduction of these medicines, there has been no decrease in the number of heart attacks and strokes in the US. A much healthier, safer, and effective option than aspirin is a truly revolutionary powerful enzyme called Nattokinase, derived from the food natto - that has been used in Japan over 20 years successfully for circulatory problems. Unlike aspirin, and other pharmaceutical agents, Nattokinase has been used safely with no known negative side effects - and it is not known to be an allergen. Among its many remarkable properties, nattokinase has shown the ability to: * increase oxygen deliverability (energy) * aids circulation * increase availability of other nutrients and supplements * support vision * augment bone density * aid joint pain * assist in management of migraine headaches * alleviate joint and muscles pains from excessive physical exertion It's no coincidence that the people of Japan consume natto regularly, and live longer. Since there are so many health problems caused by compromised circulation, the number of conditions that might benefit from nattokinase is worthy of consideration.
