The Truth About Antioxidant Supplementation

NOW THE MEDIA BLASTS ANTIOXIDANTS!

"Antioxidants don't help you live longer" declared the Associated Press (Propagandess) (AP) "news" headline last week. The opening statement noted that taking antioxidants "won't lead to a longer life" citing a published report in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The AP story in its opening included the mineral selenium as having no beneficial difference.

"Antioxidant supplements tied to death risk" declared the Reuters "news" headline. Taking antioxidants "may actually raise the risk of death, a review of 68 studies on nearly a quarter-million people" was also reported in the Reuters piece.

A little research revealed these studies were a hodgepodge assortment with a variety of differing antioxidants singly and in various combinations in a diversity of peoples and circumstances without any consistent correlation's. It shouldn't have even received notice for a news story let alone all the attention the news media gave to it.

The JAMA report, an obvious slanted anti-antioxidant piece was from a Danish study headed by Dr. Goran Bjelakavic at the Copenhagen Trial Unit in Denmark. His group published similar negative studies in the past. The range of doses and brands in the different trials they hand picked for the meta-analysis is dramatic. For example, vitamin A ranged from 1333 IU to 200,000 IU, and vitamins E from 10 IU to 1000 IU. The duration of the studies range from 28 days to 12 years. Nevertheless, they were all lumped together.

Because the authors decided to mix studies of different duration, dose, and route of administration, it is not comparing apples and oranges, - but apples, eggs and elephants. Who paid for it? Three guesses and the first two don’t count!

The Danish report was from an analysis of 68 studies carefully selected that did not provide any negatives for the purpose of their report. The researchers then carefully picked OUT more than 30 per cent of those studies and from the ones that were left noted for instance a 4 per cent higher risk of death for people taking vitamin E.

The JAMA report cited "vitamin E given singly" to "significantly increase mortality" yet 4 per cent is commonly dismissed as insignificant with negative effects from drugs. You'd be hard pressed to find any drug without a greater than 4 per cent side effect.

The studies also were substantially with those chronically ill such as one with barely 100 elderly nursing home residents for only three months. It would be hard to find increased longevity in only three months from elderly, chronically ill subjects though it would be easy to come up with decreased longevity from such a "study".

It should also be noted that all the studies cherry-picked by the Danish researchers were limited to only those in which the vitamins were synthetic i.e. man-made.

Dr. Casmir Funk is the man from whom the word 'vitamin' was derived. Dr. Funk was the first to isolate a single vitamin -- thiamine also called B-1 and also an antioxidant. Many years later Funk wrote, "Synthetic vitamins: These are highly inferior to vitamins from natural sources".

The discovery of vitamin C is credited to Albert Szent Gyorgyi who was awarded the 1937 Nobel Prize for this. Yet in his acceptance speech he noted the great difference of inferior action with his synthetic creation versus that form which is grown.

Why are they so anti-antioxidant? Gerontology expert Dr. Denham Harman, M.D. of the University of Nebraska produced decades of research beginning in the 1950s about the cause of aging. Dr. Harman wrote of oxidation (negative effects of oxygen) that produces substances called 'free radicals'. If you've ever seen rust then you have seen the harmful effects of oxidation on iron. Harman's research investigated "rust" effects on living cells.

Harman noted that substances with antioxidant properties prevented damaging effects of 'free radicals' on living cells. There are many nutrients with antioxidant properties. Harman detailed how heart disease, cancer, and common syndromes in the aged are caused by 'free radicals'. His research has been continually fought against by JAMA for half a century.

The honest truth about the polluted mainstreams of JAMA, modern medi$in and "news" agencies about antioxidant supplementation is that they are just not honest about the truth on antioxidant supplementation.

JAMA is admitting that prescription medicines are now only topped by car accidents as the leading causes of death from accidental injury in America. Almost half of the states in America reported prescription drug death increases of 100 percent or more (West Virginia topped the list with a 550 percent jump).

The CDC report certainly puts into crystal clear perspective a recent report from the Institute of Medicine that found more than 7,000 Americans died indirectly each year as a result of sloppy handwriting by your doctor.

However, if you read Dr. Gary Null's excellent piece "Death by Medicine" you will find out that adverse reactions from prescription drugs are responsible for nearly three-quarters of a million deaths EVERY year in the United States alone. Of course you won't find any mention of this in the latest CDC report because they are giving you HIGHLY filtered information that is designed to reassure you -- not tell you the truth.

All the more reason to seek out better, safer solutions to treat your health problems rather than relying on dangerous over-the-counter or prescription medications. The key principles in resolving any illness is to focus on finding the underlying cause of the problem and then seeking to understand it so you can resolve it by addressing its cause.

What many people do not realize is that it is possible to maintain total health by avoiding unnecessary drugs and by gaining a comprehensive, clear and researched understanding of good nutrition and proper lifestyle choices.
