Practical Application Of Preventive Health By Walt Edwards According to the American Journal of Public Health, 1995, almost half of working Americans have either a serious chronic disease (arthritis, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, gall bladder disease, diabetes, rheumatism, emphysema, serious arteriosclerosis, colon problems and more recently the obesity epidemic, to mention a few of the more well known health problems. For the non-working dependents and elderly the health conditions are even more alarming. Our health care system has serious problems that are worsening. More than half the costs of illness are wasted on conditions that could be prevented. While change in the health care system seems to be on everyone's political agenda, the vested interests of the $trillion dollar medical-industrial complex will allow very little real change to occur. The system will not change. There is too much money to be lost. Each individual must take responsibility for their own health and take preventive action with a healthy diet, exercise and most important becoming aware of HOW to accomplish these changes. (Need help, talk to me.) Behavior Modification: Your mind, not your body, is in control of your nutritional habits. It is difficult to make changes to poor habits. You must learn to rewrite the software of your mind by replacing poor habits with good habits. Commitment to make the necessary changes to your life style is critical for success. To accomplish exactly what you want, you have to DO IT! (Need help, talk to me.) My book 60 Day Journey To Optimal Health provides you an eight week program to follow. Recommendations are provided each week such as: Projects, Diet, Supplements, Exercise, and Mental/Spiritual. In addition, I have 23 years experience and a Ph.D. in Nutrition to help you make the changes to improve your health. Detoxification! The Most Under-Rated subject In Preventive Health: Because every tissue in the body is fed by the blood stream, supplied via the bowel, when the bowel is toxified, so is the liver and the rest of the organs and tissues. Proper bowel functions entails having more than one good bowel movement per day. If we eat 3 meals a day and only eliminate once a day, where are the other two meals? Symptoms of an unhealthy digestive tract are poor digestion, gas, poor skin, body odor, stomach bloat, fatigue, lower backache, bad breath, stiff joints, poor elimination, etc. (See for yourself, use a mirror.) Poor Diet: Dead, over cooked, devitilized, high carbohydrate, processed junk food, low fiber, fried foods, and allergy prone foods such as grains and dairy products. Unlike live foods (fresh fruits and vegetables), dead/over cooked foods lack enzymes to assist in proper digestion/assimilation and lack the fiber or bulk to aid healthy elimination of toxic materials. Over Consumption: The stomach bloats as the digestive system goes into turmoil. Foods are not properly broken down and tend to lodge in the lower intestines. Vital nutrients are not absorbed. Without through digestion, leaky gut syndrome can result producing food allergies. Stress Factors: Every cell and tissue in your body is affected by stress. Your immune system is weakened, your body is robbed of important vitamins and minerals. Your insulin spikes causing fat storage. High insulin also increases your appetite. Stress hinders the digestion, absorption, and elimination of foods resulting in acid build up and your body being out of balance. Lack Of Exercise: Metabolic efficiency is lowered as well as circulatory stimulation. The body's natural cleansing systems are weakened. Exercise stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic system, building muscles, nerves, blood glands, lungs, heart, brain, mind and mood. Reduction of insulin level with supplements and exercise reduces your appetite and increases the fat burning process. Hormone Induced Obesity: The tendency to gain fat is equal between synthetic hormone replacement therapies and removal of the ovaries. The inferiority of synthetic hormones (progesterone and estrogen) involves the shape which is different than the natural hormone. Therefore, the message also varies. For over forty years, the knowledge that a change in the angle of one bond on the estrogen molecule, estradiol, makes the message thirty times more powerful to direct cells to divide. This results in estrogen sensitive cells, like breast cells, receiving the message to divide by an increase of thirty times. (An explanation for why breast cancer can develop). Stronger synthetic estrogen contributes to obesity problem as well. Thought For The Day: Living cells generate huge amounts of waste every day. Western medicine often fails to counsel owners effectively on ways to take out the trash. Accumulating trash leads the body down the path to disease and hastens the body to grow old before its time. |
